Science Semester 1 Grade 3 October 2019
This term we will be looking at Canadian animals (most from around Kamloops) and their habitats.
Headings are:
Appearance, Diet, Habitat, Offspring, Predators, Special Characteristics, and Adaptation. Students will take notes on each subject area and then put their notes into full paragraphs. Once we are finished writing paragraphs students will then build a diorama (in a shoe box) that shows what their animal needs to survive. The last step of our unit will be students teaching the class all about their Canadian animal. See below for criteria.
Animal Habitat Diorama Project:
Project: Each student will create a diorama (a scenic representation in which sculpted figures and lifelike details are displayed) showing their selected species of animal in a three dimensional representation of its habitat. To create the diorama project a shoe box or other small box may be used as the space for the animal’s home or territory. Students may use a plastic or vinyl toy for their animal, or mold one from plasticine. I also have several animals the students may use depending on what animal they studied. Materials such as magazines (for photos), rocks, sticks, branches, silk or plastic plants, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, glue, construction paper, and other craft items may be used. Creativity is encouraged!
The following are requirements for each diorama project:
A 3-D small model of the Canadian animal, selected 3-D pictures or objects to show plants and environment, animals, and other items likely found in the animal’s habitat should be inside of box. Students may also colour or use coloured paper to make it look like animals environment.
NEED TO INCLUDE PREY/PREDATOR & FOOD SOURCE.
Due Date: November 25th
Science Term 1 Grade 4 ~ September 2016
Our focus this term will be ocean habitats and marine life. To complete this unit students will pick an animal and do a full report. Below is the criteria for our project.
~ Ocean Life ~
1. Appearance of your ocean animal
What is the size, shape, and colour?
Attach a photo with body parts labelled
2. Habitat
Where do they live? Which ocean are they in? What level of the ocean will you find them?
3. Food
What is their diet?
4. Predators
Who are their enemies?
5. Offspring
How many babies do they have? How often do they reproduce?
6. Interesting Facts
For example, how do they communicate? How long do they live? Are they an endangered species?
Information will be done on a poster (paper supplied). Presentations to the class will be done when we are finished collecting all information. Students will be graded on project (all criteria covered, neatness, punctuation, spelling and creativity). Students will also receive a mark on their oral presentation. Students have criteria sheet in their Science duo-tang.
